Knowledge and Skills

China Lens is an in-depth but accessible course about Chinese history, society and culture. We base it on the Oxford and Cambridge University First Year Chinese Studies courses. Focusing on traditional elements and their intersection with modern life, the course offers a lens through which to view China, and a great starting point for engaging with China academically and professionally throughout your career.

Through the multimedia course, you’ll gain insights into China that will be invaluable throughout your career: no matter what industry you choose!

Your year in China is designed to give you space to explore what direction you’d like your career to go in, whether that be continuing in teaching, starting a social enterprise, going into research roles, becoming a writer or artist, or going to work in a large multinational.

We aim to give you the support you need through online resources, trainings, and our dedicated social enterprise incubator. Let us know if there are particular areas you’d like to explore, and we’ll look at how we can support you.

If you have an idea for a social enterprise that you’d like to start at the end of your year in China, then you can apply to join our social enterprise incubator in Beijing where you’ll benefit from mentoring and advice, seed funding, and office space.

Moving to a new country is an adventure, it’s fun and exciting, but it’s also daunting. China Fellowship provides you with a community of like-minded peers to share in your experience, there will always be 3-4 others on the year placement with you. Along with the great support you need to get the most out of your year, co-ordinated through our Beijing team.

We’ll organise fortnightly social and cultural events for China Fellows, as well as highlighting all the fun happenings going on around you, from nights out to beer tastings, to arts and crafts markets to exciting new exhibitions and restaurant openings.

We want you to have as much fun as possible during your China Fellowship.
